Fender Jazzmaster Fiesta Red, production date: 1963, serial no. L00563
“The King of Surf”. This was the Jazzmaster’s nickname when the young wild ones of the west coast discovered the special sound and the fancy and different design of this guitar for their new exiting instrumental music called Surf. Very much to Leo Fender’s dislike, who didn’t name this modell Jazzmaster for nothing! He originally intended his creation to break the dominance of the Gibson, Gretsch and Epiphone archtops popular at the time and to be an alternative to the feedback-prone hollowbody guitars most Jazz guitarists were playing. But the Jazz guitarists didn’t want to be persuaded and they weren’t open-minded for alternatives; and if not for the aforementioned young tanned surfers, the Jazzmaster would have had a quite dreary existence.
